Honestly, it wasn't a bad book because I could relate to it on some level. If you can't really relate to theater I don't recommend it. The ending was actually kind of... terrible, I'm not going to spoil it for you, just don't expect a great ending. It's not like it slowly goes to the ending, it just appears, you know? If you did want to read it then go ahead, it wasn't a bad book overall, the ending was just kind of sucky. When you read it, you think it's pretty good, then the ending comes and you might be a little mad at the author/book. It's a pretty average book though, thanks for taking the time to read this!

At Oak Fields Prep, students are expected to attend top-notch universities like Stanford, which can be seen from the school parking lot, but all David Ellison wants to do is attend Julliard and purse an acting career. When new girl Vanessa wins the role opposite David in the school play, he begins to fall for her...despite his relationship with long-time girlfriend Ellen and the need to focus on his audition to Julliard. Will he be lucky enough to get everything he wants?

I liked this book, but it could have been much more. Instead of ending with a deeper sense of himself or the world, David seems pretty much the same, but perhaps that was the author's point. I also thought that while the characters, especially Vanessa's brother, were well-written and authentic, there were some random things thrown in like a lawsuit (that's randomly dropped), a few "friends" who pop in and out without a purpose, and no finality with David.

On the flip side, I couldn't put it down, so despite a few set-backs, this is an engaging read with a few twists I didn't see coming (audition, Vanessa, and The Artist).

Fans of YA will enjoy this book, especially those wanting a book from a male POV. I would have rated this a five-star if there had just been a little more closure at the end.

High school is where so many people form their self-images, and there is no place more pressure packed or loaded with landmines. Coert Voorhees' sensitivity to the symbolism, angst and beauty of "Senior Year" is unmatched. His gift for language enlightens and beguiles, and anyone who has ever debated the real message of Gatsby (adult or young adult) will become a fan of this talented writer--if they aren't already. Put Lucky Fools on the top of your summer reading list!
I just finished this wonderful story and would recommend it for anyone of any age. I would like to see all high school students I know reading it and as a grandmother I enjoyed it as well. It is witty, the characters are engaging and it is very well written.
The book was in great condition. I've been looking for this book for a year and finally found it. It's a good book, inspiring and a good life lesson can be learnt from the characters.
David Ellison is a student at the elite Oak Fields Prep, and his classmates are all chasing the same dream of attending Stanford, which has decided to admit only 1 student from each school. When an anonymous character known as the Artist begins divulging the secrets of the most popular seniors, David decides to forge his own path. Throughout the story, Voorhees' rich character development and artful prose make this book a must-read.
I just finished reading Lucky Fools and found myself sort of bummed that it ended....The craziness of college admissions became real to me working at an elite private school and I thoroughly enjoyed the creative and authentic manner in which the author described it....

This book is a good choice for any student entering high school, but it is also a good choice for parents who are convinced that college admission is the yardstick with which to measure a meaningful life...

Every school needs a Big Pro and every student needs friends who remind them that life is more enjoyable when we actually live it, and even more enjoyable when we see the absurdity of the destinations we determine as most important and are able to laugh at ourselves...

For senior drama student David Ellison, starring in the school play is just a small step towards true achievement.
