Paths to Wholeness FiftyTwo Flower Mandalas David J Bookbinder Lori Bailey Cunningham Books
The mandala, a symbol representing the universe, is also a tool for establishing sacred space. David Bookbinder’s Paths to Wholeness: Fifty-Two Flower Mandalas creates sacred space through the close, photographic inspection of fifty-two flowers, transformed into mandalas, with accompanying quotes and essays. With almost unbearable intimacy these mandalas reveal the power, majesty and ferocious delicacy of each flower within a series of infinitely unfolding petals. One does not so much view them, as experience them, as they appear to emerge from the page differently each time.Accompanying each mandala is a quote, in itself a source of meditation, along with brilliant, personal and illuminating essays by the author who, having undergone a near death experience, is able to speak with the equanimity of one who has been to the desert and back.
In a time when hope and fear are in abundance, this book is a balm for the soul.

Paths to Wholeness FiftyTwo Flower Mandalas David J Bookbinder Lori Bailey Cunningham Books Reviews
David J. Bookbinder's "Path to Wholeness Fifty-Two Flower Mandalas" is truly a joyful experience. It is not just a book about healing and transformation, but there is an energy infused throughout each essay and flower image that reaches toward the light. Bookbinder delivers the whole experience as delicately as humanly possible. Graphically stunning and wise. This is a book for the coffee table so that the reader may reach to ponder another essay, or merely to delight in the flower power of each mandala. Perfect gift of the spirit and for the soul.
Paths to Wholeness Fifty-Two Flower Mandalas by David J. Bookbinder isn’t a book to sit down and read from cover to cover. I would recommend taking your time to savor the many layers of information that is purveyed in each section, starting with the quotes. The quote prior to the chapter often pinpoints an idea, and the following section expands the idea further- much like the flower opening towards the sun. There is much to think about just skimming the surface, but letting yourself sink to the bottom is just as delicious.
The author thoughtfully has provided natural sectioning with beautiful mandalas that he has created. Mandalas are far more than a simple shapes. Loosely translated to mean "circle," it represents wholeness, and can be seen as a model for the organizational structure of life itself - a diagram that reminds us of our relation to the infinite, the world that extends both beyond and within our bodies and minds. Paths to Wholeness is a journey that the author has been on, and the book can be seen as a mandala itself. If you get nothing else out of this book, you will at least enjoy following the life moments.
You do not need to be a Buddhist, or spiritual at all, to enjoy reading Paths to Wholeness. It does not use intricate language, and the author distills the meaning until it is very clear. Though sometimes it seems to be distilled to the point of evaporation, I think every person will resonate with different parts, thus making it important to include it all.
For myself, one of the points that resonated several times is that change doesn’t come as a swooping, cataclysmic moment. We all have the ability to change, and when we hear the word ‘change’ we often think big- perhaps too big. A few of these sections softens the notion of change and how it’s achievable.
*Note I was provided this book free of cost by the author. The circumstance of receiving the book had no affect on my review*
Contains great sources about ancient and present history.
Beautiful!
A wonderful book with a fantastic imagination. The combination of the 'life-stories' and the concept of art-flowers is marvelous!
Thank you for creating this book!
Photos not wonderful as expected
The flower mandalas presented in this book have that transcendental quality which one finds with exceptional works of art that resonance with our innermost ineffable sense of being. They are more impressive being flowers, rather than drawings, in reflecting an inner silence, an inner stillness. The introspective narratives following each mandala eloquently illustrate, sometimes with arresting honesty, their inspirational source with seasoned psychological insights. They are a good prelude to meditation.
